Tamworth Family Attractions

Twycross Zoo

Excite and inspire your little monkeys with a visit to Twycross Zoo. Home to over a thousand animals, including the largest collection of primates species in the western world, the zoo is so close (only 3km) you can almost hear the elephants! Their major exhibits include Great Apes, Monkeys, Amur Leopards, Tropical House (including simulated thunder and lightning with tropical rainfall!), Elephants (with walkway suspended over their bathing pool) and Bornean Longhouse (exotic animals and birds in amazing jungle recreation).

Conkers

The hands on experience at the heart of the National Forest uniquely blends indoor and outdoor activities. Areas include:

  • Discovery Centre with 100 indoor exhibits exploring British woodland life throughout the year from root to canopy.
  • Waterside features live outdoor concerts and performances in the amphitheatre or explore the pond life.
  • Outdoors boasts 120 acres of woodlands, lakes and gardens to discover along trails and paths or climb to the treetop platform for a birds eye view!

Conkers is 10 minutes drive from the Best Western Appleby Park Hotel along the A444.

Cadbury World

Located on the world famous Bournville site 45 minutes from Tamworth, Cadbury Wold is a wonderful opportunity to discover chocolates history and the story behind Cadburys on a fun and sometimes whimsical self-guided tour through 14 exciting zones.

National Space Centre

The National Space Centre is just 20 minutes drive in Leicester but the experience is out of this world! Hands-on exhibitions include interactive displays, artefacts and simulators exploring space, travel, astronomy and how space affects life here on earth. The centre is home to one of the two Soyuz spacecraft on display outside Russia and also boasts the only Challenger mission control/space station simulator outside North America!

Snibston

On the site of the former colliery the award winning Snibston & Snibston Discovery Museum includes an interactive museum, colliery railway, outdoor play areas, country park and nature reserve.

  • The Snibston Colliery railway was one of the very first in the world, constructed by legendary engineer Robert Stephenson himself. You can still ride part of the original route from Coalville town centre to Snibston.
  • The Discovery Museum includes the Children’s toy museum, design, technology, science, fashion (with the popular Changing Room) and engineering. The engaging exhibits are interactive and even include a chance to dress up in (faux)-couture.
  • The grounds include trails through mixed habitats, a boardwalk across wetland areas and through wildflower meadows. Anglers can enjoy fishing two lakes stocked with raoch, perch, bream and carp.

Snibston is about 10 minutes drive from the Best Western Appleny Park Hotel and offers fantastic family day out.
